Overview:
On May 8, 2015, approximately 120 companies from Kosovo, the region, and Europe gathered for the General International Fair “Prishtina 2015,” which officially opened today.
The chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce (OEK), Safet Gërxaliu, expressed that the participation of European companies demonstrates Kosovo’s progress on its European path. He emphasized that economic development is the true hallmark of political victories.
“OEK aims to contribute as much as possible to economic development. I believe that economic development is the ultimate seal of political victories. The private sector plays a crucial role in this battle, and our local business community can and will be the driving force. With institutional support and partnership, we can succeed,” said Gërxaliu.
He further highlighted that Kosovo’s diplomatic recognition and integration into contemporary economic trends are two sides of the same coin, underscoring the country’s commitment to becoming an equal member of the international community.
“At the Chamber of Commerce, we recognize the need for ongoing reforms to align our economy with the region and global economic trends. This fair proves that Kosovo can organize a major economic event that meets international standards,” he added.
Gërxaliu also stated that the Chamber of Commerce seeks to internationalize Kosovo’s economy, similar to Kosovo’s diplomacy’s efforts to achieve further international recognition.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry Mimoza Kusari-Lila called on governments, particularly those in the region, to treat goods from Kosovo fairly at events in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other neighboring countries. Minister of Economic Development Besim Beqaj noted that this fair illustrates Kosovo’s growing economic competitiveness.
The fair organizers and participating businesses praised the event’s success, noting that fairs break down barriers within the business community. This event symbolized a milestone in Kosovo’s economic future, showcasing the local business community’s maturity and readiness for integration.
For the first time, all divisions within the business community were bridged at the bilateral, regional, and European levels, with companies from Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, and other parts of Europe connecting at this event. This sends a positive message to foreign investors and the political sphere regarding the reality in Kosovo.
